The values of individualism and community in American society are examined in this text, in order to acquire a more rewarding understanding
of their meaning and relationship. It points to the tension between these two notions in both the American past and present, and also analyzes some specific value conflicts growing out of this tension. It also recommends new ways of understanding individualism and community in the future, and provides some practical suggestions about how these new approaches can be attained by an individual. |
