Volume 3 continues coverage of advances made in the past ten years, focusing on the full range of interventions for the treatment of heroin addiction. Non-pharmacological interventions, including cognitive-behavior therapy, therapeutic communities, family therapy, and drug-free interventions
are among those covered, as is the treatment of addicted women. Volume 1's comprehensive coverage of pharmacological treatments, including detoxification and methadone, is continued, with particular emphasis on recent evidence concerning the effectiveness of these modalities. HIV and AIDS, as they relate to injection drug use, are covered, as are interventions. Issues related to drug abuse policy, treatment effectiveness, and research are addressed.
