This is the second edition of a treatise which has been used as a text by many universities in the last fifteen years. It is designed to give advanced undergraduates and first year graduate students a sound foundation on which to build training in advanced
elasticity, plasticity, fracture, elastic stability, plates, and shells. Stress and strain, and the linear theory of elasticity are among the topics covered. Matrix notation is extensively used. Emphasis is placed on geometry as the reader is gradually introduced to the concept of tensor and its associated notations. A large number of figures assist the reader further in the study of the various topics. A solutions manual is available to qualified instructors.
