These selections are organized around eleven of the most important problems of which there are differing interpretations, such as Napoleon's psychology, the Concordat, the common people in France, nationalism and the destruction of the Napoleonic Empire, the main causes for the defeat in Russia, and the Napoleonic legacy. Eleven of the selections are new translations by the editors. There are maps, an annotated bibliography as well as a supplementary bibliography, and a chronology.
