EXISTENTIALISM AND HUMAN EXISTENCE - Vol. 2: An Account of FiveMajor Philosophers

Volume 2 completes the author's goal of bringing together, in one source, a unified interpretation of the ten major sources of existential philosophy in the twentieth century. Volume 1 included commentaries on the phenomenology of Edmund Husserl and the existential writings of Albert Camus, Karl Jaspers, Gabriel Marcel, and Martin Heidegger. This second volume follows a similar format and includes the writings of Martin Buber, Ortega y Gasset, Nicholas Berdyaev, Søren Kierkegaard, and Paul Ricoeur. These two volumes reveal the continuity present in a century of existential writings and reaffirm the importance of this philosophical movement for a contemporary understanding of philosophy. In each chapter the author makes use of a primary source, gives a clear account of the philosophical meaning, focusing throughout on the way existential writers answer the questions --"what is philosophy?" and "what does it mean to be a human being?" These volumes present ten major writers and a unified theme.
