SPACEFLIGHT IN THE ERA OF AERO-SPACE PLANES

Edition

Orig. Ed 1994

Description

Pages

320

This is the first book of its type that deals with the subject of future aero-space plane launchers from the integrated perspective of the political, technical, and economic issues that drive their development. Discussion also focuses on how such launchers could directly impact the U.S. and other nations' space programs. Many interviews were conducted, particularly with the originators and directors of the current major programs. The NASP, Sanger, HOTOL and Delta Clipper (SSRT) projects are analyzed in detail as specific case studies to illustrate the myriad problems associated with getting any reusable launcher off the ground. Interviews with congressmen and foreign politicians are also included. It is not necessary to be an expert in the technical aspects of aero-space planes to understand the issues in this book.

"Hannigan's treatise proves thought-provoking and it could be argued that Spaceflight in the Era of Aero-Space Planes be required reading for anyone involved in the development of space systems." -- Ron White, COUNTDOWN, September/October 1994       "This book, based on recorded interviews with many of those intimately engaged in these projects, reviews the technological innovations and developments which have taken place since the 60s to bring up to date the tantalizing concept of a single-stage-to-orbit vehicle." -- Spaceflight, December 1994       "...this book contains valuable and reliable information on worldwide space activities." -- T. Page, NASA Johnson Space Center, CHOICE, February 1995
