Dr. Király's book describes 132 years of Hungary's history and explains the causes and effects of ten changes of regimes. During the first five decades, Habsburg bureaucrats made decisions on Hungary's foreign policy and most of its economy. After 1939, Nazis dictated
policies, occupied the country, and imposed a Nazi regime. From 1944, the Soviet Union occupied and ruled Hungary for more than half a century. Only in 1990 did Hungary enjoy full sovereignty with complete freedom for its citizens. Democracy prevails in Hungary today. From his vantage point, first in the upper echelons of the military, then later in government, Dr. Király was an eyewitness and sometime participant in events there for nearly half the period. |
