This is a one-volume presentation of the
thermodynamics and related topics necessary to the metallurgist. Although it is not an introductory text, the first chapters provide a concise treatment of the foundations of thermodynamics, while the major portion of the text is devoted to providing the thermodynamic framework essential to a number of areas of metallurgical interest, such as solutions, phase diagrams, electrochemical reactions rates, and phase transformations. The principles of kinetic theory, statistical thermodynamics, and
the thermodynamics of irreversible processes are also surveyed. Specific attention is given to the reader who has little or no background in chemical thermodynamics or physical chemistry. A problem set is associated with each chapter. |
