Volume 2 provides an overview of recent advances in such areas as our understanding of the treatment process, the prevention of relapse, psychopathology as related to treatment outcome, and other issues germane to the treatment of drug abuse in general, and
heroin addiction in particular. The role of coercion in treatment, as well as the legalization and normalization of drug use in this and other countries, is addressed. Treatment within the criminal justice system is covered in detail, and recommendations are provided in the areas of drug abuse policy, treatment effectiveness, and research. Volume 2 contains all new material and is cross-referenced with Volume 1, thus expanding and updating it. For the reader's convenience, Volume 2 contains a
cumulative author and subject index for Volumes 1 and 2 with over 3500 entries.
